Sparrows Year 1 2024 - 2025

Mrs Ducker

Welcome to Year 1 Class Page!

Autumn 2 2024

Welcome back! We hope you have all had a lovely half term break and are ready for a busy half term! We have many events to look forward to in the run up to Christmas, including our whole school trip to the pantomime and our Christmas Show!

In Sparrows team we will have Mrs Ducker and Mrs Potter, plus Mrs Burrows who will be working with us each morning. Mrs Austin will also join us at different times.
Please find below an overview of our learning for the coming half term.

We will continue to teach phonics daily in Year 1, recapping Phase 4 blends and moving on to teaching Phase 5 phonics.

Please continue to read with your child daily for 5-10 minutes as this is essential in supporting their fluency, comprehension and love of reading. Whilst reading with your child try to discuss the books too: what has happened so far, what they think may happen next, who are their favourite characters…

P.E will be taught twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please make sure that your child has the correct kit and trainers for these sessions. As it starts to get colder, it is advisable that the children bring jogging bottoms, a warm zip up hoodie / jumper, a hat and gloves for when we go outside for P.E. plus their usual blue shorts and white t-shirt for indoor lessons. Please ensure that all PE kits, and sweatshirts, are named so that they return to their rightful owners. P.E kits will be sent home at the end of each half term to be washed- this was agreed at the Meet the Teacher meeting last term as most parents agreed on this.

Could you also ensure that children bring their water bottle, containing still water, to school each day.

We are lucky to once again have an outside space that is solely for our use. In order to make the most of this space we would like all children to have their own wellies that can remain in school. This will mean that regardless of the weather they will be able to enjoy time outside.

Homework will continue to be set and posted out on Class Dojo on Fridays, and to be completed by the following Wednesday. It is wonderful to see the children working so hard at home with their photos, please continue to support your child with their learning.

As always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.
