Writing
As writers in Barn Owl Class (Year 3), we will be exploring The Rhythm of the Rain by Grahame Baker-Smith. This beautiful and thought-provoking text will inspire us to develop our creativity, deepen our understanding of the water cycle and strengthen our writing across a range of genres.
We will be writing a setting narrative, using rich vocabulary and descriptive language to create vivid and engaging scenes.
We will be creating an information leaflet, presenting factual information clearly and effectively for a specific audience.
We will be writing a newspaper report, recounting events using formal language, accurate details and the features of journalistic writing.
We will be developing our editing and publishing skills, ensuring our writing is accurate, engaging and presented to a high standard
Reading
As readers in Barn Owl Class (Year 3), we will be exploring texts linked to our geography learning on mountains and rivers. Through high-quality texts, discussion and comprehension activities, we will develop our fluency, vocabulary and understanding of a range of reading skills.
We will be identifying key information and retrieving evidence from texts to support our answers.
We will be developing our inference skills by using clues from the text to understand characters, events and ideas more deeply.
We will be exploring ambitious vocabulary and considering how authors use language to create meaning and engage the reader.
We will be building our confidence in explaining our thinking and justifying our answers using evidence from what we have read.
We will be completing daily reading practice, including past-style comprehension papers, to build stamina, accuracy and academic excellence.
Mathematics
As mathematicians in Barn Owl Class (Year 3), we will be developing our understanding of properties of shape, mass and capacity. Through practical investigations, reasoning activities and problem-solving challenges, we will build confidence in applying mathematical knowledge in a range of contexts.
We will be identifying and describing the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, using mathematical vocabulary to explain their features.
We will be recognising angles and lines within shapes and comparing different geometric properties.
We will be measuring and comparing mass using grams and kilograms, reading scales accurately and solving real-life problems involving weight.
We will be exploring capacity and volume, measuring and comparing amounts and applying our understanding to practical problem-solving activities.
We will be explaining our reasoning and using mathematical language to communicate how we have worked out our answers.
