Our Learning in Spring 1

Writing

As writers in Barn Owl Class (Year 3), we will be taking part in an exciting whole-school writing project inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Using drama, imagination and outdoor learning, we will explore the magical world of fairies and mischief to help us create creative and enchanting potion recipes.

We will be making magical potions and collecting imaginary ingredients to inspire our ideas and spark our imaginations.

We will be exploring spells, fairies and woodland magic through drama and magical activities during Forest School.

We will be writing our own potion recipes, using exciting vocabulary, clear instructions and powerful descriptions.

We will be publishing and sharing our writing as part of the whole-school Shakespeare project.

Reading

As readers in Barn Owl Class (Year 3), we will be exploring a wide range of exciting texts to build our comprehension skills, confidence and love of reading. Through shared reading, discussion and daily practice, we will develop fluency, understanding and a deeper enjoyment of texts.

We will be reading and exploring Leon and the Place Between, using drama and discussion to help us understand characters, settings and themes.

We will be reading and performing plays, learning how dialogue, expression and stage directions bring texts to life.

We will be exploring a range of poems, focusing on rhythm, rhyme, imagery and the effect of language.

We will be completing daily reading practice, including past-style comprehension papers, to build stamina, accuracy and academic excellence.

Mathematics

As mathematicians in Barn Owl Class (Year 3), we will be developing our skills and confidence in multiplication, division, fractions and money. Through practical activities, problem-solving and real-life examples, we will deepen our understanding and learn how maths helps us make sense of the world around us.

We will be learning our multiplication and division facts and using different strategies to solve problems.

We will be exploring fractions by finding, comparing and representing parts of shapes and amounts.

We will be working with money, recognising coins and notes, adding and subtracting amounts, and solving real-life money problems.

We will be explaining our thinking and using mathematical language to show how we have worked out our answers.

Create Learning Trust

In education, teachers often talk about the moment when something 'clicks' for a child - when a concept is grasped, imagination sparked, or idea formed.
Create Learning Trust, a network of academies in Northwich, Cheshire, is committed to giving children and young people those moments. We embrace innovation, share best practice, and shape opportunities to create an environment that inspires both staff and students.
